Summary

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed。

If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day。 It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another。 By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed。 Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter。 I you can't do the little things right, you will never do the big things right。

- From Admiral McRaven's University of Texas Commencement Speech

3。5。 a two hour audiobook with some simple life advice。 Pretty basic。 Military life is something I know very little about so some of the stories were interesting。 I bet he has lots of stories and I may consider listening to his next book。 P

The character shown by him and many of his peers are outstanding (I don’t want to be a sugar cookie!)。 I can absolutely see how his commencement speech became viral。 This book would make a great gift for any graduate。 God bless our military!! 。。。more

In case you forgot, I am not working this week so I have so much time to read!! Sbax has to read this because it is from a 2014 commencement speech at。。。。 the University of Texas!! This author saw firsthand that Saddam Hussein does not make his bed and certainly we don’t want to be like him。 Other bits of advice from the list include never quitting, judging someone only by their heart/character, and just accepting that life isn’t fair and the tough moments/failures are really the ones where you’ll grow the most。 Lots of these are pretty cliche but he backs them up with some powerful and inspirational anecdotes from Navy SEAL training and the War on Terror。 Like this review if you think I’ll start making my bed now。 Comment if you have a life advice snippet for me。 。。。more

This was a great read with specific examples that can relate to improving anyone's life。 I'm looking forward to possibly using it as a class book study。 This was a great read with specific examples that can relate to improving anyone's life。 I'm looking forward to possibly using it as a class book study。 。。。more

I thought this book was going to be more of an “Atomic Habits” type read, advice on small changes you can make in your life that have a big impact。。。 but it was just one man’s personal stories from the military。 Interesting in parts, but not what I wanted。 It was also incredibly repetitive, so much so that I thought I’d re-read a section by mistake。

It is a classic case of the trailer being the best part of the movie。I am not saying the book is bad, but it fails to live up to the level the original speech delivered by Admiral McRaven。 The ten tenets to follow are good and should help anyone to wade through the murky waters of life。 But it does not provide as much depth to them。 Or maybe it was my expectation that the book could not live up to。 Nonetheless, a good book to have when you want a boost in your life。P。S。 I guess I should have got It is a classic case of the trailer being the best part of the movie。I am not saying the book is bad, but it fails to live up to the level the original speech delivered by Admiral McRaven。 The ten tenets to follow are good and should help anyone to wade through the murky waters of life。 But it does not provide as much depth to them。 Or maybe it was my expectation that the book could not live up to。 Nonetheless, a good book to have when you want a boost in your life。P。S。 I guess I should have got the eBook version rather than the print copy of this。 。。。more

It was his speech he gave but with an explanation of each analogy he used。 As you read the book your more motivated by each story。 In the end, when you re-read the speech given at commencement it hits home a lot harder because you have more stories for each example he gives and it beings even more motivation to the story。 I am a big fan。

Just a normal little graduation speech。 Classic military vibes— orderly and focused。 I do make my bed every day though。

Simple and to the point。 I enjoyed it。

This was very short but had some great ideas。 Nothing new or world shattering but a great reminder。 The first part is written in book format then 2nd half is the same stories and list but in talk format。 He gave this talk as part of a commencement address。 I wish I had a paper version of the book so I could refer to the basic bullet points easier。 I am going to encourage my kids to listen。 Maybe they will get something from it。

Brandon Clement

A quick read (maybe a way to get back into reading) that expands on the now famous commencement address by former commander of SOCOM (US Special Ops)。 Brought up the book in a meeting and the leader has read it too, and also raved about it being a nice little book。

Pretty sure this book wasn’t supposed to make me cry but it did。 Adm。 McRaven put into words a lot of the thoughts and beliefs I’ve carried with me throughout my own military career。 I remember listening to the original speech and being blown away but this book expanded on the poignant lessons he shared。

Catherine

Simples e interessante。 Gostei bastante, encontrei exatamente o quê esperava: lições e histórias de e para a vida de um ex marinheiro。 Excelentes lições, valeu a pena a leitura。

Great Life LessonsThis book is full of great life lesson and how to succeed。 I rented it for school and I will buy it too read again when times get tough。

Brian

A quick and easy read with some simple, straightforward “life lessons” that actually make sense!

Geraldine Norris

A wonderful short book that has the power to lift your spirits and provide the encouragement to face life’s many challenges。

Brandy

I truly enjoyed this audiobook, and at just under two hours I listened to the full thing in one morning, and then again the next day。Is this book life changing? No。 The ten lessons he discusses are all things our parents, and life, have taught us - never quit, life’s not fair etc。 However, I appreciated hearing these lessons from his perspective。 It all served as a really good reminder, especially after the year we have all had。

Ilyse Glenn

Short audiobook with a great message!
